Aren’t you Afraid?

In an email sent last week, my youngest brother, age 46, wrote:  “Aren’t you afraid to move to Wales?” 

AFRAID?  Absolutely not!  What’s to be afraid of?  All my life I’ve traveled, starting with a year-long honeymoon of sorts when husband #1 and I left the security of jobs, family, and a home to drive around the world!  The year was 1970, the world was in disarray regarding the Vietnam war, students were protesting, French students were rioting, and the Iranians liked us! If that didn’t scare me, nothing would!

They LIKE me!

Applying for a UK Settlement Visa was intimidating.  Pages and pages of information had to be written, substiantiated, copied, and notarized.  I then had to have my “biometrics” performed (surgery?  Not really.  Just photos and fingerprints!).  Everything was then sent to the UK consulate in Chicago.  That — and over $1000!  BUT — the good news was that in three weeks I received an email that my visa had been approved — and I would soon have the paperwork in hand.  What does that mean to me?  I can move to the UK, work, and become a member of the British family — one step removed!  The ease of the process assured me that what I was doing, moving to Wales, was in the “stars”.  Now, I have stars in my eyes!
